Castiglion Fiorentino
is an enchanting town of Etruscan origin, overlooking the fertile
Chiana Valley south and the picturesque Chio Valley north. Castiglion
Fiorentino lies between the cities of Arezzo and Cortona and from
here you can easily reach many beautiful historical and artistic
centres in Tuscany and Umbria, such as Florence, Siena, Montepulciano,
Perugia, Assisi, Spoleto, Todi.
Castiglion Fiorentino is rich in Etruscan, medieval and renaissance
remains. The historical centre is dominated by the millenary “Cassero”
Tower. Not too far away from the the town you will find the wonderful
Castle of Montecchio of the 11th century. This castle belonged to
Giovanni l’Acuto, a mercenary captain who worked for the Florentine
Republic.
The historical centre of Castiglion Fiorentino is surrounded by
gentle green hills, where olive trees, cypresses and vine-yards
grow. The typical Tuscan landscape together with its cultural and
culinary traditions makes this place so fascinating and appreciated.
